Returning to Mexicali With a Crate of Cumbia Records

This Tuesday, I’ll be back in Mexicali playing an all vinyl Cumbia set at Capital Records from 5–7PM with local DJ and vinyl collect OnlyKixy.

Although I’ve been living in Los Angeles for the past couple of years, Mexicali will always shape how I listen to music and influence my creative journey. So much of my childhood memories are tied to hearing rancheras, banda, cumbias, and corridos playing loudly at family gatherings, on the ranch, family road trips, and birthday parties.

For this set, I’m bringing all Cumbia selections with roots in Mexico, Peru, and Colombia. A mix of old school classics and the next generation of cumbia producers who are slowing it down and giving it a different sound.

If you’re in town, come by for a bit, listen to some records, and hang out. There is something special about returning to Mexicali with these sounds and enjoying it with my community.

I’ll also be spending some time digging for records while I’m out there, and next week I’ll be uploading a few finds to La Disquera. Keep an eye out for some border treasures and regional classics pulled straight from the crates.

Que lo disfruten...
