La exitante LUPE canta con el maestro TITO PUENTE
Tito Puente, ganador del Momo de Oro como Orquesta Más Destacada del Carnaval Caraqueño de 1964, volvió por ese triunfo en este año y, a través de sus actuaciones en los bailes del Machito Sherraton, volvió a establecer su indiscutible liderazgo en el campo de la música bailable latinoamericana. No tiene nada de particular, pues, que el jurado le haya otorgado nuevamente el Momo de Oro en los carnavales de este año.
Estas fueron las noticias publicadas como resultado de las competencias realizadas en los carnavales de Caracas, Venezuela, en febrero de 1965. Y fueron en esos mismos carnavales en que Tito Puente presentó por primera vez como parte de su orquesta a una nueva artista: la exitante LUPE.
En esos carnavales, volvió a Ella con un estilo nuevo, con un sentimiento en la expresión de boleros, una exitante forma en las guarachas, y una novedad destacada en las interpretaciones modernas. Esto fue LA LUPE.
Su verdadero nombre es Lupe Victoria Yoli Raymond, tiene sangre francesa en sus venas y nació en Santiago de Cuba, provincia de Oriente.
Es hoy por hoy la figura más destacada del momento. Su profundo triunfo en sus presentaciones en los Estados Unidos, México y últimamente en Venezuela abren puertas insólitas para las mayores figuras artísticas del momento.
En este disco de larga duración, se logra por primera vez una combinación que garantiza el triunfo sin dificultad de lograr en el mundo musical.
En una entrevista que salió publicada en la Revista Show, LA LUPE le confió al periodista: “Creo que TITO PUENTE ha tenido mucho que ver con mis triunfos, porque descubrió en mi voz cosas que yo no sabía que poseía”.

In Feb. 1965, the leading Venezuelan newspapers carried the following story:
Tito Puente, winner of the Momo De Oro (Golden Cup), first prize as the best orchestra in the Venezuelan Carnival of 1964, returned to that contest this year and, through his performance of the varied Latin dance rhythms of the Machito Sherraton, again established his undisputed leadership in the Latin-American dance music field. It is, of course, no wonder that the select judges once more awarded the maestro and his orchestra the coveted Momo De Oro for 1965.
The Venezuelan Carnival is one of the most auspicious musical events in all of Latin America. The Carnival is, in fact, a contest of all the leading bands throughout the Latin American countries and is held annually in Caracas, Venezuela. The musical is sponsored by both the government and leading business people.
The 1965 Venezuelan Carnival was important in still another respect. It was at this Carnival that Tito Puente presented for the first time as part of the Tito Puente Orchestra the exciting La Lupe.
Lupe Victoria Yoli Raymond is not entirely unknown, but her return with Puente as La Lupe showcased her with a new style, with a new feeling for boleros, the irresistible rhythms of the guarachas and the many other exciting dance rhythms performed at the Carnival.
Born in Santiago de Cuba and of French descent, La Lupe is the most popular new star on the scene today. Her stunning success in Mexico, Venezuela and the United States has opened a whole new world to this great artist. In a recent interview given to Show magazine, La Lupe stated: “Tito Puente has had a great deal to do with my success. He has discovered in my voice a new dimension and given my performance a new meaning.”
In this new album, Tito Puente and La Lupe are heard together for the first time. The event creates musical history. They have included in this recording many of the numbers that won for them the 1965 Venezuelan Carnival.
